Ragnarok: The New World is Gravity Game Vision's free-to-play, open-world MMORPG for PC and mobile. This guide covers the Ragnarok: The New World classes and the free class change Gravity advertises. The short answer: eight classes, changes announced as free, and no class ranking on the pages we read.

Quick answer

  • Classes: eight at launch, per Steam. The official Southeast Asia site lists Druid, Archer, Swordsman, Mage, Merchant, Acolyte, Gunslinger and Thief.
  • Changing: Gravity's pages call job changes and resets free. They publish no conditions.
  • Ranking: Gravity publishes no class ranking on the pages we read, and we do not publish one.
  • Previewed: Sage and Rogue are second-job branches in the Oct. 8 update preview. The pages checked do not confirm their live date or base classes.
  • Version: Steam, the Class Showcase, the Oct. 8 preview and Oct. 16–17 notices, checked Oct. 17, 2026.

Checked against those pages and Inven Global's report of Gravity's July 16, 2026 launch. This guide is not a hands-on test: no recorded play session backs it. For installation and your Gravity account, see how to install the Steam version on PC.

What classes does Ragnarok: The New World have?

Eight. Steam says "8 Classes available right from launch," and the official Southeast Asia site's Class Showcase shows eight: Druid, Archer, Swordsman, Mage, Merchant, Acolyte, Gunslinger and Thief. This mobile-friendly list paraphrases Gravity's text.

  • Druid: a shapeshifting class. The site names two physical-combat forms, Werewolf and Wereraptor, plus mid-range nature spells; Steam adds a third, Human Arcanist.
  • Archer: a bow user from the Payon Forest with the longest attack range, using elemental arrows against different monsters.
  • Swordsman: a sword-and-shield fighter from Prontera and Izlude, with high sword damage, heavy armor and high HP.
  • Mage: relies on magic for damage, with many elements to choose from.
  • Merchant: weaker at first but grows quickly; fights with axes and blunt weapons, plus a cart and summoned helpers.
  • Acolyte: uses healing and support abilities, plus holy spells aimed at evil foes.
  • Gunslinger: comes from Einbroch and uses pistols or shotguns for swift attacks.
  • Thief: fights with a dagger, high attack speed and agility, and targets enemies separated from their group.

Heads-up: these are promotional texts. They give no stats, skill lists or levels, and they use no tank or damage-dealer labels.

Two more branches are previewed, but their live status is not confirmed by the official pages checked. Gravity's Oct. 8, 2026 update preview presents Sage and Rogue as new second-job branches for October, without an exact date. Neither the Oct. 16 maintenance notice nor the Oct. 17 Hot Update announces their launch. Rogue is described through stealth, mobility, stacked debuffs and burst damage, with three named directions: Assassination, Trick Shot and Shadow Curse.

Sage is described as spells cast on the move, elemental control, sustained damage and tactical support, with two directions (Elemental Storm, Magic Fist). The announcement does not say which base class each branch needs; we could not confirm it.

Can you change classes for free?

Yes, according to Gravity, but it publishes no conditions. Steam says "Skill resets are always free, so you'll never pick a wrong Class" and promises "Free stat resets forever."

The official site says "Respec and change jobs at zero cost!" Inven Global's report of the July 16, 2026 launch adds "the ability to change classes freely."

Steam also says you can "Master every Class with just one character," and Inven Global reports the same.

Heads-up: the pages we read do not publish a minimum level, a wait between changes, any entry cost, or what you keep after a switch, such as gear or a second-job branch. Treat "free" as Gravity's claim until you see the rules in the client.

How do you pick a first class?

Gravity publishes no class ranking on the pages we read, and we do not publish one. Those pages give no class data to rank on, so use a rule built only on what Gravity says.

  1. Do this first: decide which group role you want. Steam's party text names three: tanks absorb boss attacks, damage dealers add firepower, healers keep the team alive.
  2. Read the class texts against that role. Swordsman stresses defense and high HP, Acolyte healing and support, Archer range, Mage magic damage. Gravity assigns none of these roles to a class: the match is yours, and these are its descriptions, not role labels.
  3. Start there, since Gravity calls changes free. Confirm the change rules in the client before you invest in gear.

Gravity's Aug. 17, 2026 Steam FAQ, recorded Oct. 15, describes auto-combat and auto-pathfinding as "task distribution" for routine play. We draw no build advice from it.

Bottom line: if you only do one thing, pick the group role you want to play and start with the class whose text matches it. Checked against the pages above on Oct. 17, 2026.

What changed: Oct. 17, 2026, rechecked the official pages, clarified Sage and Rogue's unconfirmed live status, and replaced the wide class table with a mobile-readable list.
