Privacy policy

What GameSelecto collects, why, who receives it, how long we keep it, and how to make us stop.

Who we are

This site, gameselecto.com, is published by GameSelecto. GameSelecto is the data controller for the personal data described on this page. Contact for anything on this page:hello@gameselecto.com. Publisher details are on thelegal notice.

We do not ask you to create an account. We keep what we collect to a minimum: we do not store your IP address, your raw user agent or your email address in our website database.

What we collect, why, and on what legal basis

If the GDPR or the UK GDPR applies to you, each purpose below rests on one of the bases in Article 6(1) of that regulation. Where we read or write information on your device (cookies, local storage), we ask for your consent first, unless the storage is strictly necessary to provide the service you asked for.

  • Running and securing the site. Our host, Cloudflare, processes technical request data (such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested) to deliver pages and block abuse. We also keep your consent choice on your device so that we respect it.Basis: legitimate interests, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, in operating and securing the site.
  • Analytics. Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity report which pages are read, from where, on what kind of device, and how people scroll and click, so we can decide what to write and fix next. They run only if you allow Analytics.Basis: your consent, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR.
  • Advertising measurement. If you allow Advertising, Google Ads, Meta, Reddit, TikTok and Pinterest tags, delivered through Google Tag Manager, may process browser, device, campaign and page-interaction identifiers to measure how advertising performs and to show or limit advertising on their own services. Google Tag Manager only delivers the tags; it does not override your choice.Basis: your consent, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR.
  • Offer and banner links. When you follow an offer link or an advertising banner, it passes through our own /csy/ redirect. We record a random click identifier, the offer, the page and placement the link sat in, the internal page you came from, the destination site and the time, so that a commission can be matched to the page that earned it. We add the identifiers your ad platform put in the URL or in its cookies (for example a Google, Meta, TikTok or Reddit click or browser identifier) only if you have allowed Advertising. We then pass the click identifier, the page and the placement to our affiliate network, AFBooster (and the Google click identifier too, if you allowed Advertising).Basis: legitimate interests, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, in attributing commissions to the content that earned them, for the basic record; your consent, Art. 6(1)(a), for any advertising identifier.
  • Amazon product links. A link to a product on Amazon goes straight to Amazon.com; it does not pass through our site. When you click one, your browser also sends our own site a short signal, and we record a random click identifier, the product, the page and whether the link sat in the comparison table or in a product card, the destination site and the time. We do not record your IP address or any advertising identifier with it. If you have allowed Advertising, we also keep the campaign labels of your visit (the utm_ values and the name of the ad platform you arrived from). We send none of this to Amazon. The link itself carries our Amazon Associates tag, which tells Amazon that the visit came from GameSelecto.Basis: legitimate interests, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, in knowing which pages and products readers use, for the basic record; your consent, Art. 6(1)(a), for the campaign labels.
  • Conversion records. When AFBooster confirms that an offer led to a qualifying action, it tells us the conversion identifier, its status, the commission amount and currency, and the click identifier. We keep that record next to the click. Where we have configured it, we then report the conversion to Meta, TikTok and Reddit through their conversion interfaces, using only the advertising identifiers stored with your consent (and without your email address, phone number or IP address) and without the commission amount or currency, which stay in our own records; a click that has none is not reported. We may also upload the Google click identifier and the conversion time to Google Ads.Basis: legitimate interests, Art. 6(1)(f), for reconciling commissions; your consent, Art. 6(1)(a), for what is reported to advertising platforms.
  • Messages and the Subscribe form. If you write to us, or submit your address in the Subscribe form, our host forwards the message or address to the GameSelecto editorial inbox so that we can answer. The form does not subscribe you to a mailing list or send a confirmation message, and we do not store these requests in the website database. Basic anti-spam checks temporarily limit how often a form can be submitted.Basis: legitimate interests, Art. 6(1)(f), in answering you.

Your right to object. Where we rely on legitimate interests, you may object at any time, on grounds relating to your situation, by writing tohello@gameselecto.com. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time, as easily as you gave it, from thecookie settings or thecookies page. Withdrawal does not affect processing done before it.

Who receives your data

We do not sell your data for money. The recipients below receive data only for the purposes described above. Most act as independent controllers for what they receive, under their own policies.

  • Google (Google Analytics, Google Ads, Google Tag Manager). Analytics and Advertising only if allowed. Google privacy policy.
  • Meta Platforms (Meta Pixel and Conversions API). Advertising only if allowed. Meta privacy policy.
  • Reddit (Reddit Pixel and Conversions API). Advertising only if allowed. Reddit privacy policy.
  • TikTok (TikTok Pixel and Events API). Advertising only if allowed. TikTok privacy policy.
  • Pinterest (Pinterest Tag). Advertising only if allowed. Pinterest privacy policy.
  • Microsoft (Microsoft Clarity). Analytics only if allowed. Microsoft privacy statement.
  • AFBooster, our affiliate network, and the advertiser behind each offer. They receive the click identifier, page and placement (and the Google click identifier if you allowed Advertising) when you follow an offer link, and they send us conversion confirmations. Once you reach their site, your browser also shows them your IP address and browser details, and their own privacy policy applies.
  • Amazon, when you follow a product link on a hardware or setup page. We send Amazon nothing about you; the link carries our Associates tag. Once you reach Amazon, your browser shows it your IP address and browser details, and Amazon's own privacy notice applies. Amazon reports orders and commissions to us in aggregate, without identifying you.
  • Cloudflare, Inc., our hosting and security provider: it serves the site, keeps technical request logs, and delivers the form messages to our inbox. Cloudflare privacy policy.
  • Our email provider, which hosts the editorial inbox that receives your messages.

We may also disclose data where the law requires it, or to establish or defend a legal claim.

Transfers outside the European Economic Area

Most recipients above are based in, or process data in, the United States, and some may process it elsewhere. When personal data covered by the GDPR or the UK GDPR is transferred to a country without an adequacy decision, the transfer relies on a safeguard under Chapter V of those laws: the EU–US Data Privacy Framework where the recipient is certified (Cloudflare states that it is), or the Standard Contractual Clauses (with the UK addendum for UK data) that these providers include in their terms. How long we keep it

  • Your consent choice. Stored in your browser's local storage until you clear site data or change it. The matching gameselecto_ad_consent cookie lasts 180 days.
  • Google Analytics. Event-level data is kept for no more than 14 months, the longest period Google allows for this data in a standard property.
  • Microsoft Clarity. Microsoft keeps session recordings for 30 days, and favorited or sampled recordings for up to 9 months.
  • Advertising platforms. Google, Meta, Reddit, TikTok and Pinterest keep what they receive under their own retention rules. Refusing advertising consent stops them from receiving anything from us.
  • Click and conversion records. We delete a click record, and the conversion records linked to it, 13 months after the click. The same 13 months apply to the record of a click on an Amazon product link.
  • Messages and Subscribe requests. Kept in the editorial inbox for up to 24 months after the last exchange, then deleted, unless we need them to handle a dispute. We delete them earlier on request.
  • Cookies and local storage. The lifetime of each one is listed on the cookies page.

Advertising, profiling and automated decisions

If you allow Advertising, the platforms named above may use the identifiers they receive to build advertising profiles and to decide which ads to show you on their own services. We do not build profiles ourselves, and we make no decision that has legal or similarly significant effects on you by automated means. Refusing Advertising turns all of this off on our site.

Your rights in the EU, the EEA and the UK

You may ask for access to your personal data, its correction or deletion, a restriction of its processing, and a copy of the data you provided in a portable format. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests and withdraw consent at any time. Write tohello@gameselecto.com. We answer within one month. We may ask you to confirm your identity, and we may need a click identifier or the browser you used to find your record, because we hold no account or email address for site visitors. You may also complain to your national data protection authority, for example the ICO in the UK.

Your rights in the United States (California and other states)

This section applies to residents of California under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA), and, as far as they grant similar rights, to residents of other US states with comprehensive privacy laws.

Personal information we collect

In the past 12 months we collected the following categories, from you directly or from your browser:

  • Identifiers: a random click identifier; advertising and browser identifiers such as _fbp, _ttp or Google, Meta, TikTok and Reddit click identifiers (only with your Advertising consent); your email address if you write to us.
  • Internet or other electronic network activity: pages viewed, offer, banner and Amazon product link clicks, scroll and click behavior, browser and device type.
  • Commercial information: the offers you clicked and whether a click led to a conversion.
  • Approximate geolocation: country, region or city level, derived by analytics tools from your IP address.

We collect no sensitive personal information as defined by the CPRA, and we do not use or disclose any for purposes that would trigger a right to limit it. We use the information for the purposes described above, and we keep it for the periods listed above.

Sale and sharing

We do not sell personal information in exchange for money. If you allow Advertising, the identifiers and activity data in the categories above go to Google, Meta, Reddit, TikTok and Pinterest, so that they can measure our campaigns and show advertising on their services. California law calls this “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising, and some other state laws call it “targeted advertising” or a “sale”. It happens only after you choose to allow it. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16.

To opt out, keep Advertising switched off, or switch it off at any time on theDo Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page. We also treat theGlobal Privacy Control signal as a valid request to opt out of sale and sharing for the browser that sends it: with the signal on, advertising tags do not run and we do not record advertising identifiers when you follow an offer link.

Your rights and how to use them

You may ask us to disclose the categories and specific pieces of personal information we hold about you, to delete it, to correct it, and to stop selling or sharing it. We will not treat you differently for using these rights. Write tohello@gameselecto.com. We answer within 45 days and may extend that once by another 45 days if we tell you why. You may use an authorized agent; we may ask for written proof of their authority. If we refuse a request, you may appeal by replying to our answer.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. Do not allow Advertising or send us a message if you are under the age at which you may consent to data processing where you live (13 to 16, depending on the country). If you believe a child has given us data, write to us and we will delete it.

Changes

When this policy changes materially we say so on this page and update the date at the top. The previous wording does not apply to data collected after the change.
